Last night I was standing in the kitchen getting everything ready for dinner. The my phone rings. It is Barry. So I answer it and say "Hey you how is that baby of yours?"
Barry just said "mom"
I could tell by his voice that something was very wrong. Oh my gosh did something happen to that baby?
Well it turn's out that his wife beat the shit out of him and then kicked him out of the house. This is not the first time that she has done this.
Now you may be thinking that Barry is a big bad marine and he let a women hit him. If Barry fought back he would have been the one arrested.
So for now Barry is staying in a hotel room. When I talked to him this morning he said that he was thinking about going up to his parents house in Pa.
If this crap had happened here in California, I would have gone down to base and snatched that baby up and then kick the crap out of her. I swear to you.... don't mess with my marines!
Then Amber called me last night and she was just crying her eyes out.
After I got her to calm down, Amber was able to tell me that her teacher suggested that she drop her English class before she fails it.
Amber has been trying so hard and yet she is still failing this class.
Rusty just said "you know some people are not cut out for college" I know this is true.
I feel for Amber. I struggled all the way through school and I had to work my ass off just to get a c. However I am going to do exactly the opposite of what my parents did..... throw me out.
I am going to just encourage Amber to keep taking college classes. I don't care what she takes. I just want Amber to keep learning.
I hope that by encouraging Amber to keep taking classes that she will find a niche and then I know that she willexcel at it.
My shoulders need to be big today. I have Amber and Barry counting on me.
Today I do no have any major chores. I do have to go get dog food and take Nikki to fill out some more applications. I would love to get my dinning room table cleared off, so that I can start another quilt. I saw this real easy pattern in a quilt book, so I thought I would give it a try.

Barry and Amber are more then just lucky to have you - they are blessed.
What you are doing for Amber is perfect - she will find her way by encouragement from you.
Love,
Michelle
I am struggling tremendously in my college writing class....and NEED, NEED, NEED to pass to go on to my next two......can you say prayer.?
Michele
oh my gosh poor Barry and poor Amber!!! I'm okay in English; what is Amber struggling with? I could help her if there is something you think I could be of assistance for. I agree with you; not all are college material, but I would encourage her, as you are doing, to keep learning. Didn't she have to take a placement test to see what English to take? seems to be this kid of mine had to do that last year.
poor Barry; so glad he can call you and feels comfortable talking with you; I hope his wife gets her act together; that baby needs a father and a mother and a mother who will grow up and stop beating up a good man
can't wait to see your new quilt pattern; share it in here if you can some time :)

Kelli, in my opinion you have always been a rock, Hugs Lisa
(((((((((((((((HUGSTOYOU)))))))))))))))))))))))))You are always the ROCK holding everyone up.
I think you are right about encouraging Amber to go to college and learn as long as she is interested and wants to. I always think of a friend of mine who scored about 3's and 4's on her tests when she went from her small town southern Utah high school to the University of Utah, and had to take all remedial classes, but she took home economics which she was good at and ended up graduating as a teacher. She would not give up. She probably did not get the highest of grades, but when she got a job the kids just loved her because she has a great personality. I think you are a very lively writer and you writing reminds me of my sister Linda's who believes she has dyslexia, in that she constantly misspells everything. she probably would not get very good grades in a college class but that has not stopped her from being a lively interesting writer just as you are. Barry's wife just had this baby right? And he just came home from Iraq. She sounds like a hormonal mess. I was a "fun" person after I had babies...and if my husband had been deployed...oh me. I feel for both of them and of course the baby.
Amber, give her a hug from me. She has a tough time in school. I did too. But I got a degree. She can do it!

If Amber talks to a counselor at school they should be able to test her and find out which level of English she belongs in. She might have to start at the most basic level and work up. Keep encouraging her! College is important.
Sorry about Barry. I feel bad for him.
Pam
dear Kelli

I feel so sorry for Barry..can he do anything to get away from her and still keep the baby as a single dad?
