Why I do what I do

The photo challenge for this week was "sacred". I thought about this and came up a good entry for this. Then I found out that the challenge was changed.

I am going to post about sacred anyway.

The above pictures are sacred to me. Not so much the pictures but the pets in the pictures. No I do not worship my pets, but I do love.

The dog in the picture is butter and he was going to be put down when we pulled him from the pound. We were told that he was no suitable for adoption and all of this other horrible stuff.

Butter is the best dog ever!

The next picture is of the babies sleeping. I know that you can't see the kittens but they are doing great. Note that the kittens are sleeping on my homemade quilts, and true baby blankets. In the picture there is even a cloth diaper that I used on my own children.

A few years back I said that I wanted to try something new and that I wanted to work with animals. Little did I know that idea would grow and grow. Now I am quilting and fostering.

To me this is sacred. Fostering keeps me very grounded and it reminds me that animals depend on us for everything. Think about this. If everyone else said that someone will do it then nothing would get done. If there were not volunteers out there willing to foster these animals then they would die before their life began or the shelter would kill them.

To me helping to save a life is very sacred.

I do not treat these kittens as just common animals. As you can tell they sleep on our blankets. I hold them when they cry, I feed them when they are hungry, and most of all I love them.

I will sit and rock these kittens and tell them that it is o.k. to be scared. I would be scared to is I was their size, my mother is gone, I can't see and I have no idea what is going on.

To me an animals life is very sacred. Please watch the following video.  I can't load it to my journal,so just click on the link.

Kelli; the sacred photo challenge is run through Krissy and that goes through Saturday; the other one with every picture tells a story is run through Monica and that ends Monday so you have time to get this one to Krissy's journal if you want her to link it with the other entries

I cried watching that video

you are awesome for the work you do for these most wonderful of the Lord's creatures!!

Koda got neutered when he was 6 months old; for the briefest of moments we thought of breeding him since he came from great champion lines but I could not justify bringing in more dog babies into the world and also I knew what a big responsibility it would be to find homes for dog babies and making sure they were good homes; so we did the right thing and got him taken care of

thank you for sharing this

This is an awesome thing you're doing.  Somebody has to do it.  You're an angel to them.  I understand your heart on this as I have my own type of rescue operation going on here at my house, only with the human kind.

Yowza! Deja Vu here I told you we were twins. I have that same video linked on my sidebar. If you want the embedded link for yours just let me know. I can't think of a more apt description for sacred. There isn't a day that goes by I don't find myself intuned to my spirituality on an instrospective level just dealing with these animals. Seeing these ferals cats that can't bring themselves yet to trust a human being yet feeling safe enough to leave their litter in your care or around you. Not a lot of people realize just how gentle a spirit Pickles is...when you see these same cats rub themselves against her and touch noses with her, that peace, that trust is spiritual.

Peter Singer said it best:
"All the arguments to prove man's superiority cannot shatter this hard fact: in suffering the animals are our equals."

Love this post my beautiful twin. (Hugs) Indigo
