american house wife

I wonder if a 1950's house wife ever pulled a shot glass from the garbage disposal, and then had to go find the right tool to finish unclogging it so that it will work again.

I wonder if a 1950's house wife ever had to run children to school in nothing but a night gown. All because a daughters shoe broke on the way to school.

I wonder if a 1950's house wife ever fed her children jello for breakfast.

I wonder if a 1950's house wife ever had five cats scream at her because she went pee before feeding the cats.

How was everyone else's morning?

Yesterday I got a lot of sewing done. I really need to figure out what is wrong with my camera, and once I do that I will take some pictures for you guys.

I also got six pet quilts done, so they are on their way to the shelter.

Then on of the marines mentioned that they knew someone who just had a baby girl so I gave them a baby girl quilt that I done.

Man, yesterday was all about the sewing.

Yesterday George, Cj and I were sitting out on the back porch. George curled up with the quilt I had just made for another Marine. She looked at me and said " Mom you could make some extra money by selling you quilts."

I just looked at her and said "no".

George pressed on. I stopped her and finally said " I put a lot of thought and time into my quilts. It is the one thing that I can do for the marines that no one else does for them. I make them blankets to take off to war."

Today I have more of the same planned. I keep telling people that for the most part I lead a very dull life. For now dull is good and I am going to take it.

I know that life comes in cycles. For right now it is dull, but it will not stay like that for long.

I found this video the other day and I am going to make this my new theme song! I do hope that you guys enjoy it.

From reading your journal, I would not agree that your life is dull! But, if you feel as if it is dull and calm and are happy than I'm happy for you. I WISH for dull!! I really do! Right now, being in between jobs is a nightmare for me. Bring DULL ON BABY!! LOL!
I look forward to seeing pics of some of your blankets. That's a talent you have!
Hugs..Pam

I don't think you're dull either. I think it's great that you are able to do all that sewing it's therapy and you do it because you care not for money. The best reason in my opinion. I hope you figure out what's wrong with your camera I wanna see pictures. Love the song.. I never heard it before. Good theme song.
Have a great week.
Take care

WOW gurl I was wayyyyyyy behind on your journal...I just got through reading the entries and if my brain cells can remember everything I wanted to comment about I will do it on this one not to be sending tons of comments...Ireland....I have always begged to go there! That is the one place in the world I want to visit..it just calls out my name saying come home...is it home...who knows but I really long to go. Your son is getting the shitty end of the stick with that school board. Your daughters boyfriend mother should have to suck on that shitty stick. How dare she say for her to watch her back. Puck in the trash can...Ok now this tops it all...it is offical...you have a right to take a long over due vacation too..ding ding ding...IRELAND!!! As for your sister...wow that sounds like a mess waiting to happen...(note to self..read last yrs sister entry). Cato cries every morning when I have to go pee...I mean come on our animals no matter what we say do rule our lives every chance they get. Now my brain has jumped the tracks and I cant remember what else I wanted to say..getting old!!! Hugggggs, Robin

Dull hmmm, only in the sense that life gets so hectic and monochrome you can't enjoy it. As for getting money for your quilts. Kids these days don't understand the concept of compassion and giving. Everything tends to be about money, I worry when we get to that place that nothing is done from the heart given just because someone cares. (Hugs) Indigo

Well, that's quite the song video.  I marvel at you young mothers now days who manage to get just as busy as we did in the fifties.  I was so damned glad I wasn't a housewife of the thirties who didn't have any running water or electricity whre I lived, and would have had to grind corn on a stone if they had lived back in the Anazazi days.  I thought I was living the easiest life in the city with washers you did not have to start with gas, irons you could plug in instead of heat on the stove, produce you could buy in the store instead of have to plant it, weed it, water it, bottle it before you could eat it.  My dad thought all the inventions would be the ruination of his daughters and I guess it was.  Dishwashers and garbage disposals, but what next?  Now it's a whole lot of other stuff that frazzles the poor housewife to death. Great entry with even a laugh or two amidst the gloorm.  Gerry
