just sharing

This week has been a very emotional week for me. First I find out that Elle might be recalled. Then another friend called from Iraq and said that he was o.k. but he lost some buddies this week. Then this morning I got an e mail from another friend who said he would be sleeping on the hood of his truck tonight.

Now lets rewind about three years. Rusty is in Iraq. My girlfriends Renee and her two children are living with us.

It was sometime in January and Renee and I had just gotten all of the children in bed. There was a fire in the fire place and I had put the kettle on for some tea. We were going to work on a puzzle and do nothing for the rest of the night. Then the phone rang.

It was Rusty on the other end. He was on duty, he was cold and he was tired. Rusty just kept saying how cold he was and that he could not warm up no matter what he did.

I felt like shit! So the next day I went out and I bought Rusty some new warmer socks, a blanket and some long under ware. A few weeks later he called to tell me that he got the package. I felt so guilty that I was warm and he was not.

We still have that blanket, and from time to time I look at it and laugh.

Fast foward to now. I emailed our friend back and told him this story. I asked him if I needed to send him an air matress.

Tonight:

I will not complain about not having my favorite blanket.

I will not complain that the children used all of the hot water before I got my shower.

I will not complain that we need a new bed.

Heartbreaking. I will not complain either. We have to remember to be thankful for what we have.
Just getting caught up with your entries for this week. Hope you have a nice weekend.

Amen sister.  I remember that night.  I felt/feel guilty for all the soldiers not getting any sleep either.  God bless our troops.
Love ya,
Renee

What a stunning picture this is. We need an entry like this one to remind us how our soldiers in Iraq might be suffering compared to us at home.  I appreciate it.  There is no one like someone who has served there or been the wife or parent of child of one who did to remind us. I try to think all the time of the most effective thing I might do to end fighting. I am going to do an entry on protesting war soon, which has always been a way I chose to try to make a difference.   Just like you have done here.  Thanks.  Gerry

WOW, that picture is really a reminder of what these men and women are doing for our country. Thanks for sharing this.

Came to your journal via Gerry (gehi6), and just want to offer support for your man out in Iraq. Whether we agree with the politics behind all that, or not, the men in the field should have everybody's unfailing backup. Keep going
